We are studying the role of metal ions in group II introns, i.e. naturally occuring catalytic RNA molecules. The influence of different metal ions on structure and function of these self-splicing introns is investigated. Our interdisciplinary approach applies methods from the fields of Inorganic/Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, as well as Structural Biology (structure determination by NMR and/or Xray). Therefore, our group consists of people from Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology.

From time to time, we have open positions for Ph.D. and Postdocs. You should have a Diploma/Master of Sciences or Ph.D. from one of the above mentioned fields, (ii) be interested in working in such an interdisciplinary and stimulating environment, and (iii) be looking forward to study RNA structure and the role and function of metal ions in ribozymes ... i.e., be interested in solving biological problems on the bioinorganic level.

As long as our lab space is not too crowded, we are also happy if you are interested in making a Master thesis in our lab.

Still interested in joining our group? Please come by for a visit, or send your CV, list of publications, names/addresses of two referees and a short summary of your research interests/experience to:
