Research:
The fundamental objectives of our research can be summarized as follows:
- Explore Re(II) chemistry starting from synthons comprising the “fac-[(N3)Re]2+“ or the cis-[Re(II)(CO)2]2+ core.
- Investigate the action of specially designed Re(II) complexes with biologically relevant molecules such as proteins, vitamins and DNA.
- Introduce bridging ligands such as cyanide into the building blocks received under 1 and 2 for building up supramolecular structures for single-molecule magnets (SMM).
In medium time scale we aim at:
- Introducing Novel Stable and Substitution Labile ReII-Based Building Blocks for:
- (Targeted) Cancer Therapy
- Design of New Single-Molecule Magnets
There are currently three research topics actively pursued:
- Synthesis of Re(II) synthons and their basic chemistry
- Re(II)-based CO-releasing molecules
- Design of new Re(II)-based single-molecule magnets
